It’s the mid-1980s, and “public radio” is just beginning to gather momentum in the U.S. At a flagship station in the Manhattan Municipal Building (pictured above), a ragtag group of creative and somewhat rebellious characters is creating something completely new: an interactive audio program — specifically aimed at children.
"Kids America" wasn't just a radio show — it was a beacon of creativity, a sanctuary where young minds were listened to and cherished. For a large swathe of Gen Xers, it was more than just a program; it was a pivotal part of growing up. A whimsical world made just for them where their imaginations could soar, and their intelligence was celebrated.
Join us as we dive deep into the archives, uncovering hidden gems and heartwarming stories that will transport you back to a time of innocence and wonder.
